Transporting a dog to Australia

Animals must be shipped in IATA approved transit kennels that allow the animal to stand up without touching the top of the box, lie down and turn around. It is a requirement that dogs are shipped as manifest cargo and not as excess baggage. There is only one Quarantine unit in Australia - based in Melbourne (Sydney closed at the end of 2015) - so all pets must enter Australia through Melbourne Airport, colloquially known as Tullamarine Airport. If you are unable to collect your pet or pets after the quarantine period then you will need to make local arrangements for movement of pets to other cities in Australia. We can assist with onward travel to your destination city in Australia- Just ask!

Please note:  It is not advisable to ship pets to Australia in December through to February because temperatures in aircraft holds can be excessive at this time.

It is always difficult leaving your pet in quarantine but they are well looked after and you can look forward to a very happy reunion after the required period is done.
