Exporting Pets from the UK

General Information About Exporting Pets (dogs, cats or other).

When you request a pet export quotation we quote for all costs to transport your pet by air to the named destination airport.  If you are delivering your pet to our premises near Heathrow it must arrive no less than five hours prior to the flight.  Collections from you (if required) will be by arrangement, usually on the day before departure.

There will however be additional charges payable at the airport of destination to cover costs for such items as airline import handling, customs clearance and veterinary charges.  As these fees are payable in country of destination, and we are unable to pay them on your behalf, so these charges are not included in the quote (but we will advise you of this).

Prices are dependent on the size/weight of the animal(s) to be exported, any additional services (such as UK transportation, kenneling, and veterinary certification), flight time and the destination.  In the case of dogs, the box size provided is based on the measurements given to us.  Should these measurements be incorrect we accept no responsibility for any delay or extra costs involved as a result.

Animals must be shipped in containers built to IATA specifications which are the correct size for them i.e. they must be large enough for the animal to stand up without touching the top of the box, lie down comfortably and be able to turn round within the box.  There must also be a fixed water container inside the container with a means of filling it from the outside (funnel).

Should you wish to utilise our services we would need to have written confirmation with payment as soon as possible and at least 28 days beforehand.  We will also require a contact Name, Address and Telephone Number in the country of destination (the airline will need to ring beforehand to confirm acceptance).

You may be able to take your pet as excess baggage, which would mean booking direct with passenger reservations.  This is sometimes a cheaper option (please note that some airlines cannot take livestock and that there may be restrictions such as standby status depending on the airline and the route).  However should the animal(s) be a particularly large shipment (in Airline terms) or coping with the animal(s) at the same time as the move be particularly difficult then we can offer the cargo option along with other services including collection, kenneling and Export Health Certification.

With information on the measurements of the animal(s) we can build transit kennels to fit.  Kennels can be either picked up from us or delivered to any U.K. Airport to coincide with your check in time or be delivered to your home.

Whatever the mode of travel, pets will go into the cargo hold of the aircraft.  This is heated and pressurised to the same extent as the passenger cabin.  The animals are loaded into the hold approximately half an hour before departure (however the airline requires that they are delivered to them 4 hours prior to the flight) and are unloaded at the other end usually within half an hour of the plane landing.  Once the documents are available the animals can be cleared through customs.  The handling/vet fees are then payable to the Import Shed Operator at which point the animals can be collected and taken home.
