Taking your pet to Canada
![]() |
The good news is that Canada recognises the UK as being Rabies free and domestic pets do not have to be quarantined when entering the country. However, you will of course, require the correct documentation and, although your pet need not have a rabies vaccination because of the UK's rabies free status, it will certainly be better if your pet does indeed have this done prior to travelling. With such a long journey like this if you are going to get your pet vaccinated it would be much better to do this well before the date of departure. |
By the way, if you think your pet might return with you to the UK at some point and you do not wish them to be quarantined, you should enrol your pet for a "Pet Passport". It is not necessary to do this before leaving the UK, as Canada is a member of the PETS scheme and you will be able to take all the necessary steps to allow your animal to return to the UK with you from within Canada. Be aware that it takes approximately 6 months to complete the PETS process in either country.
